Strange. 2 or 3 miles doesn't seem that much.
But then again -- I probably increased distances way too fast. I think I have pretty strong tendons and ligaments. I did taekwondo for 2 years between the ages of 15 and 17 -- and no matter how much stretching I did (and I trained 2x a week and every day at home) -- I never could get the full split.
I also did quite a lot of stuff in my youth that might actually have strengthened my tendons, like inline-skating, skiing, tons of bike rides, weight training. But I got real lazy after I met my wife (how cliché) at 29. Ended up gaining about 5 lbs each year of our relationship (later marriage) until I had reached 242 in the fall of 2023. I already had lost a little weight when I started running.
I also try to avoid asphalt and concrete -- I mainly run on forest roads and gravel roads between fields -- we have a lot of those in Germany. And we live in an area where there is a large forest region nearby without any larger roads cutting through. Ideal conditions for running. I go out the door and depending on the direction I take -- I'm in open nature about 5 minutes into the run.
