This year's Concours had a lovely section titled "California Dream Cars" from the 1950s. These are non-production prototypes, hand-made by passionate private engineers. Many won awards at car shows in their day, but their makers never produced more than a few. One of the creators is still alive and attended the show!
1952 Fageol Pataray with in-house 300-hp Fageol bus engine and the chassis of Fageol Supersonic coupe, named after the builder and his wife, Pat and Ray Fageol. Ray Fageol is still 92 years young and showed the car with his son.
Very spacey 1953 Kurtis Sorrell SR-100 with aluminum chassis (he also made some with fiberglass) and 302-ci GMC 1-6 engine with 6 carburetors
1958 Strother MacMinn LeMans GT with Corvette V8 engine. MacMinn taught design at the Art Center College of Design and was honorary judge for many years at the Pebble Beach Concours.
Maybe this post could include some interesting modern concept cars. A Japanese maker Ken Okuyama is following the hand-made tradition with his Brdcage design.
Here's a crazy experiment on display. I haven't researched it yet, Attucks Futures Espada:
Another modern concept car from Lamborghini, Lanzador electric:
