This year's Concours had a lovely section titled "California Dream Cars" from the 1950s. These are non-production prototypes, hand-made by passionate private engineers. Many won awards at car shows in their day, but their makers never produced more than a few. One of the creators is still alive and attended the show!

1952 Fageol Pataray with in-house 300-hp Fageol bus engine and the chassis of Fageol Supersonic coupe, named after the builder and his wife, Pat and Ray Fageol. Ray Fageol is still 92 years young and showed the car with his son.

Very spacey 1953 Kurtis Sorrell SR-100 with aluminum chassis (he also made some with fiberglass) and 302-ci GMC 1-6 engine with 6 carburetors

1958 Strother MacMinn LeMans GT with Corvette V8 engine. MacMinn taught design at the Art Center College of Design and was honorary judge for many years at the Pebble Beach Concours.

Maybe this post could include some interesting modern concept cars. A Japanese maker Ken Okuyama is following the hand-made tradition with his Brdcage design.

Here's a crazy experiment on display. I haven't researched it yet, Attucks Futures Espada:

I skipped the angular Lamborghinis from the show's 60th anniversary celebration of the company, and only took a photo of this 1965 Lamborghini zagato coupe (shown also up above as a teaser.) I didn't realize that Lamborghini started out as a tractor company.

And finally, a pile of cute little Ferraris, likewise skipping the modern ones, as I covered those from Saturday's owner's gathering.
    First, a 1950 Barchetta:

That wasn't me officer, I promise!

Nor was I responsible for the McLaren t-boning the shuttle bus that left just minutes before we got in line for one of the next busses. I just hope the idiot driving the race car didn't end up in the hospital.

Never heard of it (I know the cobra of course), but I agree, they look very similar. Of an era perhaps. One could like the emira to a modern ferrari.

The Ace precedes the Cobra by about 8 years and, Yes, the Cobra is much better known; courtesy of a certain Mr Shelby who wanted to stick a V8 'lump' into the Ace to compete with the Corvette and approached AC.
The Ace is one of my dream cars from my childhood, but they fetch 'silly money' these days and I ain't that flush; but, never say never and all that.

I think AC Cars would be a perfect focus group for another Concours year. This being my first Concours since moving here, I realized that they pick several categories to highlight each year and invite the best of the best to show their cars in those categories. It's not my first Concours ever. Back as a teenager I volunteered at a much smaller local Concours d'Elegance at Stanford University. I remember having a lot of fun, but somehow I never became a "car guy."

Oh, also... I had to go back and repeat the uploads on one or two of the posts, as the website seems to have dumped them. I think uploads are working better through the "Go Advanced" link in the edits.
