I haven't really set a budget yet, but I was looking around C7s and it doesn't seem like they've dropped as much as I thought they would have with the C8's announcement. 911s are also easily found with a proper manual, but I fear anything in budget will be a bit old for me for a daily driver. One of the appeals of a Boxster 981 would be that it's much more recent, and then if you look at the Mustang, you get even newer for really reasonable prices. Even the F-Type is plenty new and around the same price as an older 981. The Mustang is a serious used value, though.
I originally just wanted to swap my Z4 for a Z4 M Roadster of the same vintage, but I do think I want to dip into some of the new tech. Things like navigation and bluetooth are really nice to have.

Yes I have the LC 500 now and still own my XK8, but it is in PA at my Dads at the moment. I had a F Type R(Supercharged V8) and an S that was hopped up a bit (V6 supercharged). The V6 is the one to get. It is what the car was designed for and the handling shows it. Much sharper handling car than the Boxster S. I shopped the two against each other. I was surprised to find the Porsche boring, but if your looking at the stick the Porsche is your only choice. The manual in the Jag is a POS. The auto FType is much more fun if you get that false notion out of your head that your more in control with the manual. Your just as in control with the auto in sport mode and almost a second faster. The ZF auto fires off shifts pretty sweet up and down nearly instantly rivaling the best dual clutch systems. It was not near as good with the V8.
All the magazines have been lore in by the V8 models which they then complain about the handling. Mine was hopped up with factory parts and flashed with an OEM code my Jag guy found. It rear wheel Dyno at a hair under 400hp which was about 100 over a stock R. The pads and rotors were swapped with EBC (I don’t remember the color) which cut about three car lengths stopping distance from 70mph. I think I spent $1500 for all the parts(engine and brakes) and I installed all of them except the ECU reprogramming. All the engine stuff kept it in warranty.

Now that we have a local road course with at least one open night a month I’ve debated a track car. First choice would have to be a GT350 Mustang. I drove one there along with quite a few other things and I have my best lap in that. I should mention it’s a manual only.
Why would you think C7 would go down? If anything they will go up as the last and best of that breed. You can get the Z06 7 liter 427ci LS7 C6 with a six speed at a decent price now. It comes pretty close to squashing your eyeballs like a Z06 C7 does. My neighbor has had both of these with the manual. The tranny felt the same in both. He’s holding out for a Z06 C8 to be out a year before he lets his C7 Z06 go. He did that with his which was a good move given the first year had some cooling issues to work out.

No heated gear?
My winter setup is a Joe Rocket hi viz jacket and pants with liners, Firstgear heated jacket liner and glove liners with a hardwired controller, Firstgear winter riding gloves, my everyday Sidi riding boots.
I've been riding in temps as low as -8C the past few weeks. The only issue is some cold coming into my helmet on the highway when using my tall tankbag.
You have to watch lean angles and leave more room for stopping with cold tires, but it's not bad with the right gear.
No heated nothing. I'll get some grips soon which will help - my hands are the only things that get cold really. Ridden in 1 or 2, never minus though! Cold days are okay in the sun but recently it's been grey and raining so, no thanks.
