It is an organised class, a kind of interval training . Good fun but not many other blokes in it.
No machines and only light weights used in hand for some exercises .
A lot of planking and thighs/ glute work at the bar.

I like to work out in the bar as well :-)

A potential alternative is to post videos of you doing workouts (especially squats and deads) and get feedback from folks online.

I started working out seriously in college when I was on the rowing team, and so we had the benefit of a professional coach teaching us the right form.

Often, I see folks in the gym with really poor form, even on the exercise machines. It particularly bothers me when I see folks on the rowing machine with atrocious form, and I sometimes warn them that if continued, they could seriously hurt their backs.

That's more Tom's forte. He's the one obsessed with poop.

Agreed. We have a Nationals level swim coach for our swim club. I thought I knew how to swim until she started dismantling my stroke. Now, I'm surprised I was even allowed in the water before.

And it's amazing how even "simple" fixes and tricks can make us much better at the sport. For instance, the reason rowing teams are encouraged to sing is because it helps maintain the rhythm and the cadence. And there's a damn good reason you face the back.

On an unrelated note, GST is awesome. Had my "pull" day today. Pull-ups, OHP, BB rows, Pendlay rows, hammer curls, and shrugs.

The first two are core workouts, so did them from 70% of 1RM through 100%, 3x. The supplements were 15-20 reps, 3x. The last workouts in each set were to failure for both core and supplements.

The lower weights are much kinder on my injury but I can feel the aux muscles engaging. And I used very little weights in my pull-ups, which was probably a good thing. I think my days of one arm pull-ups with two fingers on a ledge are probably at an end.

It was windy and raining all weekend and I had an exam to revise for so I relaxed, read my notes, drank red wine, ate well and aced the exam this morning.

I, on the other hand, had a dentist's appointment early this morning. And having had only 6 hours of sleep, I woke up unhappy to begin with.

And then I head out the door, only to realize that it's snowing. Not just a little, but there's serious snow (that's thankfully not sticking yet). And I headed out the door unprepared with a good jacket, so now I am hesitant to walk over and get a good cup of coffee from my favorite coffee joint.

So, being sore + being at the dentist + not having had enough sleep + not having my favorite coffee = I am *really* cranky.
