In the past 10 years, I was twice laid low for months on end due to a pinched nerve.
    Man! is it nasty!
Could not even sleep lying down - had to sleep in a chair.

Working out can aggravate the condition as the back and shoulder muscles when they bulk up tend to yank/squeeze the nerve, thus causing it to flair up inside the nerve canal in the spine - that's where it gets "pinched."

So I laid off working out for over a year.
Went back to the gym the other day thinking MAYBE, just maybe, it's OK now.

I didn't do a whole lot - just stretching and small free weights.
But that night I could feel a little tightness in the neck, shoulder, and the back: symptomatic of the nerve getting yanked or "squeezed" a bit.
    SIGH.

Alrighty then, I guess I'll just turn into putty.
Better a functioning putty than a Hercules bound to a chair.

Well, there is Yoga, I suppose.

Pilates? My wife goes every week and tries to get me to tag along, does her trapped nervy bits and damaged back good but I steadfastly refuse to enter into public exercise in a room with people I don't know whilst being forced to adopt positions that will almost certainly cause me to fart ....

    Do it!
I assure you, the room won't be full of people thereafter.

I sometimes go for a walk.

I've never been in a gym but I've been disturbed by what I've seen when passing by.

Last night, in the squat rack next to me, there was a guy who was doing massive dead lifts (we're talking 8x45 lb plates total). And every time he would finish a set and drop the barbell, he would fart loudly and grunt to cover it up.

And between sets, he would walk around, loudly crop dusting the whole place and pretending to sing loudly.

    It was... bizarre.

    That's nothing.

I saw "you" in a dream riding on a train similar to this, waving at me... 50 yards away maybe... and moving away... too faraway to make out any detail, except you had a tie on (naturally) and a tweed jacket.

The back of the train got smaller, tapered as it were... and it moved on its own, like a rattle snake or some hideous bio-mechanical slug.

I was on the platform, wearing a grey cardigan, going, W.T. F ????

No bow ties or spanx? I am disappointed.

On an unrelated note, H.R. Giger was a genius.
