The moon phase subdial is cool. The date sudial is unnecessary. And where is the minute totalizer?

As for the dial itself, I'm not sure what I think. It certainly doesn't grab me immediately.

It looks like each of the subdials are dual use. The date is also the running seconds and the hour and minutes appear to be combined on the other subdial.

Yup. They look nice, but as chronographs they’re next to useless.

I feel, by a certain age (which I have reached), one has a god-given right to be cranky. Not to mention cantankerous. And curmudgeonly.

In Japan, there are two types of people who get away with breaking “the rules” of society. Gaijin, of course—they call it “gaijin power”, they just assume westerners don’t know any better. The second type is elderly women. The logic is that they’ve lived their lives, raised their children, and they’ve earned the right to color outside of the lines now and then.
