Realized I am the grumpy older dude at the gym this weekend

I was in the middle of a set of dumbell incline bench....when suddenly WHAM BAM BOOM!

Kid next to me slams a set of dumbells down. Not just dropped, slammed

First thought in my mind was a quote I first heard from a military gent years ago

"If you can't sit em down, you got no business picking em up"

You're not wrong. My local gym manager yells at people for doing that, it damages the dumbbells.

Some deadlift motivation from the Giants Live show we were at in Vegas. Strongman deadlift rules include deadlift suits, worn under their clothes, and straps. American Trey Mitchell set a new American Strongman Deadlift record with a pull of 470kg/1036lbs. The huge deal with this lift is that it was done only using straps - he was not wearing a deadlift suits like all the other competitors in the competition. Other lifters in suits tied his lift, but nobody was able to lift the next jump in weight.

I don't mind people slamming weights if they're really heavy and clearly at failure. Because what else can you do.

In my new gym everyone is so young! School kids come in after 3pm and 3 of them hang around at a machine gossiping. Im the old grumpy dude in mine lol. Quite the opposite of my old place which was a proper meayhead gym.

Agreed, intentional slamming is what really bothers me

Finally used my Apple Watch for its intended purpose. 3 Laps around the block is 1.03 Miles. Not even joking when I say I'd rather put 45 pounds on my back and walk 3 miles uphill than jog a mile. But it could have been worse.

Got the "Turkey Trot" on Thanksgiving Day in November. Mile run with my Daughter, most of her class, and whomever else decides to sign up. I think it's sponsored by the local Y, I don't recall.

I hope you have good shoes for it! I cannot jog without running shoes, too hard on my knees

I have a pair of Hoka running shoes. They’re some of the best I’ve ever tried.

Tonight I wore Red Wing loggers, and threw extra stuff in my small backpack to weigh me down for a walk with the Wife and Daughter. Beautiful evening.

Still running almost every day. Just bought a new Garmin - the Instinct 2X to track my runs. Sold both the Fénix 7X and 7 Pro however.
Still keeping the weight down at around 80kg (176 lbs) - a year ago I was at 242 lbs.
For running I currently wear two watches. The Huawei Fit 3 for the music and the Garmin Instinct. It's fun comparing the two and especially the different metrics.
Running is fun for me. I miss it when I can't run. But that's rare. Had to pause a few days during summer vacation when I had a little cold (often I get sick while on vacation).
Managed not too long ago to get under 60 min on my daily 10k run.

That is impressive weight loss in a year, and the running is obviously keeping it off. Well done!!
