well started on swatch watches about ten years ago wasn't much to be done with them straps and cleaning /battery's that sort of thing then I strip down a few mwc quartz's to see what was inside them ..churchy on his thread went on to do a whole thread on the mwc and would strip down like I did as part of each one he did . from there I went on to build a 6498 mod the movement arrived none working so I took a look at it as a new one would take weeks to arrive and got it going and built the watch . so enjoyed doing the build but work out cheaper to buy them ready made .. so I looked at other watches I had that needed work fix them ..then decide to do a Russian 3602 mod from pw to wristwatch that where my love of the Russian 3602 and 2209 came from .. then I went into doing casio restoring after seeing a lot on the bay that took my fancy . from that I would try any watch but pw movement are just easier to work on . but the nh35 are ok too .

Interesting path, thanks for sharing. Straps/bracelets/batteries are as far as I have gone lol
Advice on tools? I like to tinker
well a decent back remover I like a two prong one and a also a ball back remover, a set of decent screwdrivers (but I did sand one down for the really small screw like the click spring one) hand removing tool, crystal press, come to mind , also got a machine can't think what they call it , but it's battery operated and you can test electronical movement for error and also spin all sets hands on it to make sure they are working and if any build up of dirty or old oils . is stopping it.
brought a few swatch back that way as a battery did not have the power to start it but when on the machine it almost like a jump start then the battery takes over once the movement running free and clear .

yeah anything quartz's I tend to just swap out the movement they tend to be easy to source older watches like the 70's Russian 3602 then one time you could buy loads cheap wish I had about six years ago seen a box of 50 Russian pw buy now at like £50 with post included .. now faulty one go for ten to twenty each unless in real bad shape . think it was the fact so many was used to convert to wristwatch that the pw are getting rarer.
so repair now is better got four that would work if I could lay my hands on the hairspring/arm (could do hairspring only but to fix to the arm there are real tiny screws to pin the hair spring and is a might tricky )
so could do with some Russian pw parts ..but got no way to get them now.
could trade of some p.w cases could do with some second hands too ..

Was just looking at Russians…quite fancied getting a couple of Vostok’s….and noticed the price has crept up ridiculously!
I suppose you’re right Ismy old bean, things are creeping up and up necessitating repair over replacement…
Talking of which….
Todays wrist mounted hour counter is this rather attractive Casio 83qs-41a which by my guess is around late 70’s early 80’s.
For a plain vintage Casio I find it quite a looker. Paid a whole £5 for it (the vendor couldn’t figure how the back fits on)
It was also missing the battery holder but a little bit of monkeying around got a battery in place…no problem thinks I I’ll just get another for parts…. Errr no! Prices are bonkers!
So Ismy….i know you liked your Casio’s, you wouldn’t happen to have a busted one of these or a battery holder for one that you’d be willing to sell?
yeah love me a Russian too mate had two hundred vossie at one time was collecting all the diff dials when selling then I got between a tenner and £50 depending condition and how rarer the dial was ..but they was the first to be sold off . my Russian left are my conversions , three railway large pw , and two smaller pw (working got a box of bits am working one) and two zims one was a gift one was my uncles oh a T34 tank clock got two of them one working one not would be tempted to have a go at repairing the not working one if I knew how to open the thing as it has a bezel winder at front
can take a quick look now in my one bits box if not can try and get in the loft tomorrow for my larger box of various bits as was going to sort it out anyway when I got chance .
can you show me the back as I got something similar from memory works fine just has no back was hoping to source one in a casio tat lot but![]()
