Aren’t the Boxster and Boxster S still available with a manual?

Although, I’m wholly uninterested in the 718. A 4 cylinder in a Porsche feels so wrong nowadays. Especially at $70,000+. You’ve got to be kidding me at that price. Many years ago, I’d hoped for a GTI-derived mid-engine platform, maybe branded as a Volkswagen or even an Audi to go below the Boxster, but to put a 4 cylinder engine in an $84,000 Boxster S, a car that will surely top $100,000 by the time you add things like doors, seats, and a steering wheel, I’d rather buy a 997 and cozy up to a Porsche mechanic. If the Boxster still started in the $40,000 range, that would be one thing, but at this price range, it’s a very unfunny joke.

It's car week here on the Monterey peninsula. I might be snapping some photos of interesting beasts parked in the shopping area nearby. The Ferrari Owners Club of North America has their annual meeting on Saturday, in a nearby parking lot. I'm really not much of a car guy, but I enjoy a pretty machine occasionally. I'll try to post when I see something interesting.

Hopefully they’ll have a fair few classics on display. Modern Ferraris are certainly not what I’d call pretty machines.

I mean, this, this is a pretty car:

    This? Well, not so much.

Now, that’s not to say it’s bad or you shouldn’t like it if you do. But pretty? Nah. Pretty to me implies delicate, elegant, classy, understated, but beautiful. Their designs have gotten better, I think the 458 and 488 were particular low points, especially in the mid-engine V8 Ferrari realm (especially compared to predecesors 430, 360, and 355), but I’m still not bowled over.

They did sell the modern California with a manual, which instantly makes that car 30% better looking in my eyes, but it’s rumored as few as two were actually delivered with a proper transmission. Shame—had I won that billion point five, I’d have gotten one. Or paid for a Portofino to be converted.

Not exactly what I’d call pretty either, but with a proper manual, it appeals more than its closest competitor (Aston Martin DB9 Volante, another car with a theoretical manual; they do exist, but it’s as difficult to find as truth.

$97,000 for the Boxster and $95,000 for the Cayman.

Boy, oh boy do I really wish my father hadn’t illegally sold my 987 S out from under me.

Good lord. I just noticed the base 911 isn’t available with a manual anymore. Maybe I really ought to just buy the best 997.2 I can afford and hide in a bunker until the apocalypse is over.

Yeah, I saw that the 911T comes with a manual. I was surprised to see that the base doesn’t come with one, especially as a lot of times you’ll see a manual on a base model so a lower starting price can be advertised. I guess Porsche isn’t concerned with that so much.

And yeah, my dad sucks. Thank you.

I agree completely. I'll be sure to take some photos of vintage models for you, then. I know that someone in the area owns an early 60s (I think) 250 GTO or maybe it was a Dino... I'm not an expert. It was certainly pretty though. There are bound to be more vintage critters just tooling around showing off. Tickets to the actual Concours d'Elegance are the price of a decent wristwatch, so we'll be skipping the actual event; but free stuff happens all week long.

Aiming to please Geoff, I took a paparazzi snap of these two cars waiting at an intersection on Hwy 1 today. That blue Ferrari has a family resemblance?
