991s look so big. I like them, but the 997 looks much more classic 911 than the 991 does.

Saw a Taycan RS today on the road. I had no idea these even existed... sharp looking car.

Edit: I just looked them up an RS version doesn't; exist, I must have misread the 4s.

All electric, they have a Turbo S version, 0-60 in 2.6 seconds Wow!

Electric is not my thing, but I rather have this than a Tesla.

Well..two main issues outside from practicality. First, the cable-actuated shifter isn't great. I was spoiled, coming to it from a Miata, one of the best shifters ever, but even so, the Lotus one was vague and rubbery. Second, the sheer size (or more accurately, lack thereof) can't be underestimated. You find yourself looking up at truck wheels next to you. It's as bad (or worse) than a motorcycle, people just can't see you, especially if they're in trucks or big SUVs (like so many are these days), and you have to be super careful on the road and assume people don't see you. The car is only 44 inches tall.

But I still miss it. I'll never forget the first time I put it on the track, and thought, "so this is what this car is really for..."

As for build quality, funny story. I had some custom paint work done on the interior, to match the exterior of the car. It involved taking off the shroud that covered the AC controls. When we did that, it was held on by two screws--the one on the left was an inch long and had two washers on it, the one on the right was two inches long and had ten washers on it. Also, when we took the gearshift shroud off, we found a beer bottle cap wedged in there. True story.

I get that. I feel the same way about the Z4 sometimes, which isn’t that much bigger than an S2 Elise. It’s a fair bit longer, but still very short, and only 49” tall. Getting drive through was a contortionist’s feat unless the roof was down

That was a load bearing bottle cap, I hope you left it in place!

I agree on the Miata shifting. I love mine. Though I'm not having much trouble with the Lotus shifting, it took me a bit to get used to. Supercharged Lotus is great though! But I do very much enjoy the Miata as well. Both are very wildly impractical at the moment and are parked in the garage not driven. It's mostly a CX5 (turbo at least) because I can put a car seat in it

Outside of a Macan, the CX5 might be the best handling small SUV out there.

How do you guys feel about buying a car and having it delivered? You know, from a site like CarGurus or something like that. I think that might be how I have to get the Golf R, if I do get it. It just seems to be a crapshoot with trying to find one locally. And, frankly, since it’s a daily driver, my requirements for how fun/sharp to drive it is are weighted less heavily (and I’m fairly certain I’ll enjoy it, it’s gotten very good reviews and I’m generally a fan of how Volkswagens drive), so I won’t be as particular about things as I would be buying a Z4 replacement.

Not the generation that I’m planning to buy, no.

But I figure as long as there is a no questions return policy, I should be okay.

Well, you should be competent to read the terms and conditions and be comfortable with them.
