Thread: The cars and bikes thread!

@Raza, regarding the Panamera, all I can tell you is I had the opportunity to take one on a track once (not mine!), and the car seemed to literally shrink at speed, to where you wouldn't believe it was a 4000 pound sedan. It was like magic. I also drove a 911S at the same session, and yes, it was more responsive and a bit more fun. But I think if you had the opportunity to track a Panamera, you would be very surprised...

I had a Cayenne GTS with 3 pedals. It was very Porsche and drove sort of like a sporty sedan, but it was still an SUV.

I’ll have to try it myself—I’ve heard that praise before, but in my experience, it’s always relative.

Rare car, I bought it as a leftover 2008 in 2009. The least reliable car I've owned by a long shot, it was a miserable ownership experience. It was a shame because when it ran well it was a fun vehicle - 3 pedals, NA 4.8L V8, great exhaust note. Just a ton of electrical issues - fix one and another one would pop up a few weeks later.

Well, you’ve certainly convinced me not to hunt one down. But there’s something about a manual SUV, it doesn’t even have to be a particularly sporty one, that really appeals. Sometimes I think about tracking down a manual X3 as a beater.

Anything with 3 pedals and reasonable mileage is going for too much money right now. Things are slowing in the enthusiast market but prices still have a way to go before they return to some sense of normal.

Love the GTS Cayenne. The Cayenne is a vehicle I really wanted to dislike. I avoided them for the first generation and most of the second. When I was test driving preowned 911's back when I bought my 4S Cab I had my first encounter with one when I used the term not a real Porsche. I was told to drive it and see what I think. I have what I call my test track back down in Pompano that includes a set of two very tight off camber S turns right near the Goodyear Blimp hanger. For the record I blasted through these at about 89mph as the fastest I could go without loosing the back end (with or without nannies) through these turns in any 911. First time through on the test drive of a Cayenne GT V8 I hit 103. I couldn't believe it. So I did it three more times and got up to 106. I came back a few days later with two friends and repeated this a few times more. First this is beyond stupid speed and second in the long curves that follows the 911 will eat the Cayenne's lunch by several car length. It was just the amount grip this had and the margin of safety available when you are running beyond stupid was amazing. This has always changed my opinion of the Cayenne when someone says it not a real Porsche. Yes me driving both on the same track the 911 will win big, but on real roads in Florida monsoon thunderstorms I'll be much faster and more comfortable even than a GT4S 911 in the Cayenne. In the real world for everyday this would be the better Porsche. The light front ends even on the 911 GT4S is pretty scary when it hits the deep puddles during our thunderstorms.

I really wanted the GTS with the Diesel engine back when these were made, but then Dieselgate happened with all VW owned brand vehicles here and they would not sell you one.
    Cheers,

    Michael

Tell everyone you saw it on IWL!

That experience is exactly how I ended up with the Alfa.
For a 5 seat SUV it is faster and more stable than it has any right to be. Overtaking is such fun that I'm often disappointed when I have a clear run to work. Acceleration from 50-100, along with the exhaust note, has to be experienced to be believed.
