I don’t want to spend more than I have to, so might go from Merc to Skoda Karoq, Toyota RAV4, or Ford Kuga. And what the hell, maybe a Kia Sportage.

But not a Qashqai. I’m not driving a word like that.

I kind of like it better (see other post). At least it doesn’t look like everything else. This look is one of the first times I’ve kind of considered a BMW in years.

I used to always have Audi’s up until I bought the 911 Cab. The models all had distinctive looks. Now from the front I really can’t tell one from the other including the SUV’s. The only exception is the ultra cool hi-performance wagon they have. It makes me want to spend far more than I want to for a car when I see one. Mercedes has done the same thing. They each had a distinct look which I still miss the round headlights on the E class. Now only the GT looks different to me from the front.

The BMW cars are starting to look better to me. In a way it’s kind of the Audi grill with a bar in the middle, but that kind of makes it look better to me.

For any car that's not high on reliability I have found that unless a car has a fatal issue, like the rod bearings on my M3 or the IMS on certain Porsche, buying a well maintained used or CPO car can be better than new. The new car teething pains are sorted out and you still have some warranty available for the big stuff. You often avoid the annoying early trips, that while covered under warranty, give you a bad overall ownership experience.
Agreed. I’m just making an observation since I’ve looked at several BMW over the years but never bought one. I always liked the Audi, Mercedes, or Jaguar better mostly because of the interiors. So I have no real experience with BMW’s. I know the engines are solid and like most German cars they generally nail the gearing. Some of their experiments with automatic shifters probably contributed to me not owning one. From what I understand they are still playing with that.

The new M4 with the manual I drove last November was possibly the sloppiest manual I drove since a friend wanted me to test drive a manual 76 Chevy Nova when we were teenagers. That made getting the sequential quick shifting dual clutch a shoe in along with gaining the extra HP and torque BMW detunes out of the manual to help reliability. The issue is Dual clutch trans reliability scare me since no one’s seems to have more than 5-6 years in them until something expensive fails. I tried three of the M4 with the manuals at different dealers and they were all the same. Don’t believe me take one out, and even the auto mags concur. They really need to drive a Miata or some of the Porsches that still have manuals if they want to feel what a really good manual feels like. Without the manual the M4 seemed like a compromise and the dual clutch was not an option. Then my neighbor sold his truck so I needed something to pull the boat. In the end the truck is proving to be far more useful than the car or the Lexus GX would have been. I have anytime I want access to my friends C8 so I can cure my sports car craving when I need to. I really wanted to finally get a BMW, but the gods again were not down with that plan. Well the gods and whoever built or designed that horrible shifter.

Which model M4, mine or the new one?

My manual is slick. Way better than say the mustang which was grim.
