Re busy gyms in January: Happily, the new arrivals at my place aren`t early risers. In the four years I`ve been going, there has been no significant change in the early mornings - same dozen or so people who arrive around 6 am. It`s the main reason why I stick to the early schedule.

Back to the gym woo hoo! Neck still isn't perfect so I did the only exercises that don't use your neck muscles - squats, calf raises and deadlifts (regular and straight legged). I feel amazing, if a little shaky. Turns out my hip isn't perfect either - fml. Good to be back though - despite the Jan gym noobs (I just put my roidrage face on and bullied them off the squat rack).

Then came home and took the mutt for a 2 mile run.

Back a lot better. Started swimming and will start yoga this week. Weights is still on hold (I'm paranoid now). Will start running in a week or so to start prepping for end of May half-marathon.

So, my revised sched. should look like this for a while:

    Yoga: Mon, Fri
    Swimming: Tue, Thurs.
    Run: Mon, Wed, Fri.

weights...??? I guess I'll see about that in a week or so.

Ease into the weights - and stretch ideally always, but especially if you're working out first thing.

I just want to get over this stupid post-flu phase so that I can start hitting the gym again. My shoulder is finally all healed up.

I tried going for a run the other day and started coughing like crazy. I am tired of eating like a bird just so that I can bulk up when ready.

Finally! Ran 2.5 miles today. Pretty horrible time at ~25 minutes, but hey, I did it.

And lifted a little (unfortunately, I am traveling and the hotel gym only had dumbbells). Feel so much relieved to have hit the gym again, after a hiatus of almost a couple of months.

Yikes. I've been off for about 2 weeks and feeling nuts. Hope you get back to 100% soon, M!

Thanks, J. the worst part is that with the holidays, my diet was also shot. So here's hoping I can hit the walls of a new hill or two in the next few months.

Hope you feel better too! It's such a relief to finally hit the gym -- I've missed those endorphins.
