Here’s something the Elise guys might get a kick out of. Car and Driver’s first comparison test with the S2 Elise, up against a Caterham Seven, a Factory Five Cobra, a Honda S2000, and a Mazdaspeed MX-5.

I still miss my Elise sometimes. Right up until I think about how much harder it would be for me to get in and out of it now. If I were going to have a track-only car, that would still be the one. Just amazing fun on the track.

In 1980 I bought a Jeep CJ5 and drove it for 6 years until my brother crashed it. I still miss it. Last December I put a Jeep back in the family.

Redline specs on the Lotus seems off to me, redline should be 8500.

As I recall, the nominal redline was 8000, with occasional bursts of 8500 allowed but if you did it too much, it would cut you off.

Ah, must be my mods then... The previous owner said mine could even handle 10K + with the built internals... but there is still the limiter (as I've experienced - the Italian tune up ).. I think it was for handling big downshift mistakes... either way even 8K is addicting with the Larini exhaust.

Yup. I had a BWR supercharger on mine (plus the Larini, too), which lowered the point where the second cam kicked in to 3000, so getting above 8k wasn’t really necessary.

Bought a new to me car, 04 Element with only 120k miles on it a couple weeks ago. Super utilitarian for hauling the baby when need or mountain bikes.

Going to get something more fun to act as a sometimes daily as well next year.
