Another thing the Brits did that we did better:

The 289 above or the 427s below.

Amazing to think about how far cars have come. The slowest car I've ever owned, a 1.8T 5 speed automatic Passat, a run of the mill family sedan from 15 years ago, would leave a standard AC Ace in the dust in a straight line and (thanks in part to tire technology) probably gain even more ground in the corners.

Sure the Cobra would 'blitz' it, as would many a modern car; but I don't give damn about the performance... ... the Ace is a pretty little thing and a perfect summer cruiser for my tastes.
Besides which - Have you seen how much we pay for fuel ?.... About $6 a gallon in your terms.

This was why my bike went away since it was so frustrating to ride here. Just as bad in a car, but at least there is AC.
I’m surprised your area isn’t following the current trend up here, which is to replace lights with traffic circles. They’re even doing it in Wisconsin, for heavens sake. I shudder whenever I encounter one up there—people just don’t seem to be able to navigate them properly.

    A roundabout ?

If everyone follows the rules they're fine.
    People don't though.

The 427 and 289 are just as pretty; possibly more so, with that pronounced rear shoulder. I would agree the 427 S/C, with the stripes, roll bar, and side exhaust isn't as pretty; it veers more to the mean. I would prefer a standard 427.

I think we can all agree that it's an attractive car. This is a replica that was sold on Bring a Trailer for $48K:

This is a funny looking shifter though, that would take some getting used to:

The AC Ace is a pretty thing, though:

I actually wanted to give a character I'm working on an AC Ace for his car, but it's 5 years too late. The work is set in 1948 and the Ace didn't come out until 53. 40s wasn't the worst time for cars--Porsche 356 and Jaguar XK120 spring to mind--but it was hardly the best for beautiful designs.

The ‘Magic’ Roundabout in Hemel Hempstead confuses some on first acquaintance, but it keeps the traffic flowing. But anyone who had just learnt about roundabouts would have to unlearn some of it. I used it regularly at one time, and liked it.

It's a handsome thing for sure, but they really should have blackened those oil cooler pipes & unions..... it's a bit 'distracting'.
