Any of you guys ever own a 997? It's recently come to my attention that they're pretty affordable, and comparable in price to the 964 I originally wanted.
If did or do have one, which model? Which transmission? If you had a coupe, was the sunroof enough to make you forget that it isn't a convertible? If you had a convertible, was the open air enough to make you not miss the sexy ass 911 roofline?
I mean, I know all the usual pitfalls. It's too beautiful, the engine is in the wrong place, the clutch is really, really heavy, it's too big, it has too many sets. But the 911's always been tops for me, at least for my adult life. And the 997 appeals to me massively, of the modern 911s (993 and beyond). 997 seems like the kind of car you could buy for the rest of your life. Though I also feel that way about the 964.

This is my ideal 911:
It's both coupe and convertible with the best roof action ever.

I do think the 964 Cab was the best looking cabriolet of them all, with maybe the 993 being second.
Here's the 993 for anyone not up on the 911 chassis codes:
964 Targa is also beautiful, but the roof panel is always an annoying thing to deal with.
Until the 991, that was the death of the targa as a proper body style, though. 993, 996, and 997 all just had a giant sunroof instead of an open top.
Although, I looked and did not find a single 997 Targa with a manual for sale on Autotrader. Makes me wonder if they ever made it with a stick.

My dream porsche. I heard the v10 scream past me once - nothing ever came close.
Don't think it looks dated

No, it still looks great. It's exquisite.
I don't normally go for fixed wing 911s, but I have a deep, deep love affair going on with the 964 RS America.
Don't know if it's my favorite Porsche of all time, but it's up there.
959 is also the stuff dreams are made of:
So strange and strangely beautiful.
But the Carrera GT is exquisite, that's without dispute.
Although, I did say I wasn't big into fixed wing 911s, I think the first time I was like "Oh man, I love Porsche now" was when I saw the 964 Turbo in Bad Boys.
