Any reason for the switch from a conventional deadlift to a sumo deadlift? I have done both, but just to work the muscles from a slightly different angle. I have also heard of competitors doing this just to get more weight off the floor (shorter pulling distance with the wide stance). Just curious.

I competed last year and used a conventional pull. I wanted to work my posterior chain a little differently and made the switch to sumo.

I think it's helping my squat more than pulling conventional.

I pulled 2.8x bodyweight at last comp. Goal is 3x.

That explains it. 3X is certainly a solid goal. Good luck with the training.

Hip, neck. You are your own worst enemy.

    Thanks.

I've seen people pull 4x and more but I don't see myself getting close to that drug free at my age.

Working out in the morning - just light dumbbell shoulders - pulled my neck on my first side shoulder raise. Shoulda stretched.
