Came across a nice picture of my car today. It's not my actual car, but I have been up that road - in a bus.

    Yup. C220 CDI.

It was an estate of some sort that I went shopping for, and the Merc was the most satisfying thing in my budget. As a bonus, I reckon it looks nicer than the saloon.

Mine isn't as automated as that. It hasn't got memory seats, for example - although I wish it had.

The extended warranty is realistically comprehensive and can carry on being extended. I've had the car two years now and it's been faultless. The warranty and service package should take care of most costs. Tyres are £50-£75 and it does 45-50 mpg. The purchase price wasn't wildly different from a Passat or Mondeo and automatic estate versions of those were very thin on the ground. It probably does cost a bit more to run than my old Vauxhall Vectra, but it doesn't feel like it. Mercedes treat me well too - invites to track days and the British Grand Prix, etc. - not that I've been...

It suits me - solid, comfortable, relaxed and effortless. Easy to load the back with stuff from the garden centre or things to take to the dump. I don't think I'd hurry to change it if I won the lottery.

I heard that extended warranties are a waste of money, but I guess it depends.

I’d never bothered with extended warranties before, but Mercedes forums reckoned that the Merc warranty was well worth it.

I don’t miss the money it costs - and the same with the service plan - so one way or another I don’t have to think about running costs.

Yeah, Teslas burst into flames at the drop of a hat. Basically every crash is a major fire risk.
