    You guys eat some weird stuff that I just find quite alien and wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but those bacon breadsticks look 'mazing

    Seiourly is correct. Grits are coarse ground cornmeal. Hominy grits, like the ones I made today, are white.

    They are not unlike polenta.

    I freely admit I eat things others might not. I am not afraid of trying pretty much anything, but I really don't see anything that even comes close to weird in today's breakfast.

    Grits aren't super common food. More of a southern thing in the US, I think. I've only ever seen them down in the south or in the occasional adventurous restaurant that wants to try something new. I'm not a fan, though I do like polenta.

    Uncommon yes, weird no. Really no weirder than polenta, cream of wheat, Sonny Boy, Red River, oatmeal, or any other cooked grain/cereal.

    I think just like polenta, the quality of the grits is dependent on how it's cooked and what is added.
