Everytime you turn on the a/c, you'd get a face full of 24 year old smoke.

Vinegar water spray into the air intakes while running the a/c and again while running the heat full blast.

Vinegar mix on all carpet and cloth too, including the trunk.

When all that dries, I'll do the same with febreeze.

I'll most likely have to redo it in a couple of weeks.
Don't forget to replace the cabin air filter afterwards.

My new job is a 100 mile daily round trip now so I need something more economical. And the missus won't drive the saloon, which is infuriating, so I need a hatchback. I'm thinking golf gtd, seat Leon fr, or bmw 120d. I prefer the styling of the golf, but rwd is kinda fun. Thoughts? Just test drove the seat and it was cool. I'm not sure rwd actually makes a difference.

RWD makes a difference, but that doesn't mean that a FWD car can't be fun. My Passat (bog standard 1.8T with a 5AT and 15" wheels) and my Jetta (2.0T/6MT with some sporting intentions, but not quite a GLI) were both much more fun to drive than my E320.

Which engines in particular are you looking at? Seat (and Skoda, if they sell them in the UK still) can offer a cut rate price to Volkswagen and sometimes have surprising benefits.

Looking at engines above - 2 litre diesels. The ones in the vw and seat are the same. They still sell skoda in the uk and whilst I'm no badge snob I wouldn't own one.

    2L diesel. Sigh.

    Why no Skoda?

Although, looking at this new Octavia, I wouldn't buy it either...that grille...it's so.....Lincoln.

That was a much more attractive front end.

I know mate. I need the mpg. I'll have an r6 for fun soon though. That said they're nippy - golf gti speeds, almost. And read the op! Wifey wants a hatchback - she refuses to drive a saloon as it's 'massive'.

That Skoda is technically a hatchback, it's just a 3 box hatch. Like my brother's car.

I'm actually considering one of these too - it would save me £4k a year in fuel which is quite a lot.
