But seriously, I really want to build an old Caddy on bags.

You have to tell your insurance company about mods?
Yeah well at least that's what they tell you over here

Deffo. I ran a quote with a chip and it wasn't too bad though - didn't even ask for more details - just "racechip"

Have it properly 'mapped if you're gonna do it at all.

I've not researched your car obvs , but you should be able to achieve +20% in HP and torque.
A good mapper will 'map it, let you try it , then return to stock if you don't like the benefits.

Depends if you like getting your money back if you write your car off. Cos they sure as hell won't pay up if they have the slightest reason not to (like this).

A bit of it isn't about flatly refusing to pay out, it's (quite rightly) refusing to pay out for a modded car … i.e. being expected to pay out for the extras too, when they had no frickin' idea about them in the first place.
They need to know what they're covering….

Most won't cover a car with the kind of mods Wayne is doing, even if you promise you won't be tracking it.

Oh no, I understand their refusal to pay which they really would - that's what they do and in this case it would be fine. But they'd want to increase the premium not to cover the cost of the extra parts, but due to the extra 500hp quadrupling the chance of a crash. They price mostly on that, not value of parts.

Well yeah, that as well, not all drivers are as safe as wot you are GB ith the increased power they can quickly wrap it round a lamppost , not just the car damage but the increased (risk of) payout to injured parties and deaths, also is the increased risk of theft cos it's more shiny and stands out.

I seem to remember once an insurance company wanting more money if the car had a tracker installed !!!

Speaking of trackers some companies give you a cheaper quote if you have a tracker box installed 'telemetrics' or something. No thanks - if you crash at 31mph in a 30 they'd probably not pay out.
