I always assumed I disliked Panatone. Quite unlike me to do such a thing; I just figured it was a filler for hampers, dry and fruitcake-like (not my favourite). Boy I was wrong! Sweet, buttery and pillowy - delish.

I love the fluffyness, though the citrus can be a bit much sometimes if you don't like orange/lemon cake. Panettone also makes a great french toast.

This and I don't even particularly like french toast.

Finally got around to cooking our own turkey dinner, but the meal ended up far closer to Happy Hanukah than Happy Christmas. Pomegranate glazed turkey and couscous with carrots and dates.

And since Mrs. K and I are both big fans of Cabernet Francs in general and rose' with turkey in a more specific way ...

Visited with my best friend from high school who settled in the Pittsburgh area. Had lost touch with him til about 5 years ago. was able to find his phone number through a high school alumni directory and have visited him every time I'm here since.

Took over his kitchen for a little while to prepare a couple of appetizers,

I'm gagging for some mussels actually. I'm thinking a white wine cream sauce.

So, despite the fact I'll be eating sushi nonstop in a few days, I went to a great sushi place last night. Did a nigiri sampler. Had all sorts, including sea urchin for the first time. It was interesting, for sure. I liked it, but I don't think it'd become one of my sushi staples.

Brave was the man who first ate a sea urchin, though. Oh, here's a spiky ball of needles. Let me turn it upside down and eat it.
