Many automatics have the same functionality.

Yes, but most will overrule you if you select a gear it doesn't want you to, and will force an upshift if you are going to hit the rev limiter.

DCT's and conventional auto's have paddleshift and left gate 'manual' of course

Just the DCT is actually shifting into a actual conventional gear

I just don't get the need the need to do transitions via a manual clutch pedal!......it doesn't make any sense.... It's just boring repetitive needless exercise for your left foot.........

    Imho

That's fine if you don't want to drive a manual. But let's not pretend that automatics aren't automatics.

    Hmmmmmm

I like manual, but I don't like constant clutch pedal shuffling, its just boring, repetitive and pointless.

Whilst I do like the 'automatic' side of an automatic (or a DCT) , I do like flipping it into manual shifting from time to time when the urge or need takes me, more so on a DCT though...
I just dont like clutch pedal monotony.
Don't get me wrong I've driven years in manuals and am very adept at learning a new cars bite point, I just cant be bothered with a clutch pedal anymore

But half the fun of a manual is getting the shift just right.

It isn't as fun if the computer just does it for you.
