    Good luck Geoff.
As a national level competitive bodybuilder in my younger years, my body has now started to show many signs of wear and tear.
I stopped training with weights back in 2003 after a double hernia and back problems but have recently started again and am thoroughly enjoying it.

Thanks. I like my food and booze too much to get to like 12% BF, but I'll be happy with abs just visible really I think.

Got any pics of yourself semi-clad and oiled up? PM if you wish. I'm serious, actually...I spend a lot of time looking at ripped men Inspiration, I guess. I'm comfortable enough with my heterosexuality.

Did/do you lift for strength or hypertrophy? I started for the latter but it's fun hitting the goals so I'm upping my weight.

I started after giving up boxing aged 14 and did my first competition in 1988, aged 16. That was the year that Dorian Yates won the overall British title and got his pro card. To be backstage with somebody like that was really inspiring.
I trained mainly for muscle mass and shape but obviously strength came with that and I moved some stupid weights for my age, probably part of the reason for my current joint problems. I squatted 260kg aged 16!
At competition time I would be under 5% body fat and would do things like carb depletion/loading to remove any water under the skin. We would also sodium deplete so ended up drinking distilled water. You learn a lot about your own body by doing things like that as what works for others doesn't necessarily work for you.
I'll see if I can dig out some old pics and drop you a line.

Eight kms in chilly -15C weather. First 10, 15 minutes were a bit of a challenge, but then all good. feels good to be back into a bit of a routine after a long lay off. Long way to go before I regain a semblance of the fitness I had before, but it least I'm moving forward! Happy Sunday, everyone!

I woke up early today and decided to hit the recumbent, even though I don't normally do any working out on a Sunday. I wanted to finish the book I had started, which took longer then I thought it would (1hr). Then when it was done I was still peddling and about to go into a cooldown when I saw my ipod beside me and remembered that I had a new album that I hadn't listened to yet, so I did while riding. Almost 2 straight hours on the bike is about 2x my standard daily, so I feel pretty good about the 4 beers I'll have this afternoon and glasses of red wine I'll have with dinner.
It is now my duty to completely drain you.

I have 2 young children to chase around - That's all the exercise I need (or want) thanks.
Some people have opinions - The rest of us have taste.

    Respect! For your professional attitude.
Our culture (mostly the West, US in particular) is an incessant nudge-nudge-wink-wink innuendo about everything all the time.
But sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and pics of ripped men are just exemplars to be used for guiding any man's aspiration for fitness, regardless of sexual orientation.

Quite. I'll often point out good looking dudes to my wife. In working out, I have certain goals, and I'll often google image search for inspiration. I tend to aspire to the slim, lithe look (the body type I associate with being able to run around on mountains all day) and not the hulk type (the guy who can help you move your fridge, but couldn't hike up a hill without gasping).
