That's true. The K Series equipped S1s were peaky which meant you had to stir the pot a lot for corners. Price you pay foe a meagre 118bhp. Kind of fun, most of the time, but a little exasperating on occasion. The 111S had a broader band but I remember it feeling that it was still mostly coming in high in the rev' range, almost like a very light turbo.

Yes, because the second cam doesn't kick in 'til 6000 rpm. When you put an aftermarket supercharger on, pretty much all of them reprogram the ECU to lower the second cam. On mine it kicks in around 4000-4500, which makes a huge difference.

Man, I've been a car guy since the 90s. But recently there's just nothing new out there that really captures my attention the way cars used to. The Shelby GT 350 with the flat crank 5.0 L comes close. But I don't find myself dreaming about buying one, the way I used to with, say, a mid 90s NSX. Or the Jaguar XKR.

I recently rage-sold my VW TDI. Also sold the MGB after two summers of thorough enjoyment. Bought a 2015 Mazda 3 sport back with a stick shift as a one car replacement. Honestly - that's all the car I need right now. Immensely fun to drive. Efficient. Reliable. Practical. And, to my eye, gorgeous. I think I'm out of the sports car / performance car game for good now, too. (with the exception of a particular 1965 Hi-Po 289 4-speed Mustang notch back that will be coming my way, eventually). Whatever my next day to day car is, it'll probably have even more room than the 3. And AWD.

    Happier this way, though.

Haven't seen you around in a while.

Though it's always sad to see someone give up the sports and GT car game for a practical all-rounder.

Haha yeah. Last 4 months were just brutal at work. I also tried to figure out which hobbies I wanted to keep and which I could ditch. A moratorium on spending, and browsing helped with that. Still love watches though - after the end of that. Cars, though... man I just can't justify a sports car right now. Not compatible enough with my other passions - cycling, camping, diving, photography, etc.

Haven't given it up for all time. There is one particular vintage mustang in my future. At the very least. But for the meantime I have to focus on having a single all-rounder.

Other hobbies? Your priorities are all wrong, my friend! Plenty of photography equipment fits in a sports car--if it doesn't, smart phones do plenty. Diving? Just get a membership to a swim club and hold your breath. Camping? Get a hotel, problem solved. Who wants to sleep on the ground like homeless vagabond bear anyway? And cycling? You already have a car, why would you use a bicycle to go anywhere?

    haha, all very persuasive points!

And you know, the interest is still there. I think I need a proper garage first, though. The MGB was a ton of fun - but in an apartment with a dim garage half the fun was gone. When we get a house - I can see something else getting in there... lots of time to think. And I'm half tempted by the new 5.0 L Mustangs... and that ND Miata is... wow. Love at first sight.
