You will only need to worry about it in emission testing states I'd assume.

I think the issue is normal driving, not testing. VW setup the cars to run cleaner during testing.

I am saying you probably only have to take it back in for recall work if you live in an emission state. If you say lived in Alabama, you'd never need too. The state wouldn't care.

I don't think it will matter, the cars pass state emissions tests. I think the Feds will make this a mandatory recall, but I'm not sure how they can compel owners to comply.

Right, no emissions check in GA for diesel, but *I* do care, in this instance as my daily driver. One of my biggest concerns with getting a diesel was the potential harm of breathing any residual exhaust with the windows down or whatever...

Now I am a hypocrite in a way, because i have another car that I always worry when it's time for emissions check (always hoping I pass)... but it's my little weekender that I really only drive less than once a month.

Is this a US only issue or does it affect cars sold in Europe too?
If the supply of ETA movement parts affects you please complete this survey:

At the moment they are saying only a U.S. issue.
Who knows what they've still got hidden.

I remember a while ago when the Audi/VW 1.8T engines started failing left right and centre. Turned out to be a faulty oil pick up in the sump.
    VAG America offerred free repairs/modifications.
VAG UK told people I know to "Eff off" there's no issue. Even with all the proof of what was happening across the pond.

Yeah, it's crazy. Doesn't bother me one bit, though.

But it's just for a specific gas. Can't quite recall. Most people report better than EPA gas mileage because when not in test mode, the car uses less fuel.
