I very fortunately got a lift most the way home, and at the bus stop I got off at a bus immediately came that goes past the end of my road, so now I'm home and I had no opportunity to buy myself an extremely well earnt bottle of wine

Where else are you supposed to drink beer? I love a cold beer on a hot summer afternoon. Whiskey on the other-hand...
If beer drinking in the sun bothers you don't ever come to the southern US.
(Of course most of what they are drinking can only be called beer by the loosest definition...)
