Were you quoting? Or just being a bleak, nihilo-existentialist?

So, did she dislike Plato? Or do you? Her handwriting is bad and cropped so I can't tell.

She's misquoting a line from Pindar I used to quote: What is a man? What is he not? The dream of a shadow is man.

But did you actually smoke a pipe in class?
If so, PROPS! That's some badass professoring raght thar.
BTW, the student's handwriting really was urine poor.
But that's the new normal, innit. It's all lost. We're all bots now.
And most are all too happy about it - for not having known anything different.
SMH.
I sigh over how my own handwriting has atrophied over the years, since the onslaught of the computer.
I still make a point of writing with a fountain pen everyday, just to keep what little is left of my once-formidable calligraphic prowess.
But this is the quartz-killing-mechanical-watches' equivalent for the "art" of manual writing.

Ahh. Since I am unfamiliar with Pindar it was the portion regarding man and shadow that threw me.

For ease, basically cut and pasted from wikipedia:
ἐπάμεροι: τί δέ τις;
Creatures of a day! What is a man? What is he not? A dream of a shadow is man. But when there comes to men a gleam of splendor given of Heaven, then rests on them a light of glory and blessed are their days.

I shudder at the thought of there being a PC version:
A biological entity that lives for a short time!
What is a person? What is he or she not?
A person is but a dream of a shadow.
But when a ray of light comes down from above, and lights people up, and makes them famous, they are happy.
