This is a weird time at Rolex/Tudor, it seems. The Land-Dweller is strange from start to finish, the Submariner getting bigger was a decision I still don’t understand, and now the Black Bay and Pelagos are getting larger models as well. Is the market pushing towards larger models again? I have to say, as someone who started in on 44mm watches and has owned some as big as 47mm, I’m really happy in the 39-42mm range; I think part of it is just getting older and preferring a less flashy look, but also that I’ve had more experience and I’ve found what feels good and in proportion to my wrist by trying out watches that didn’t stick around. It just seems odd to me that for so many years during that big watch craze, Rolex resisted going bigger and once everyone sort of started to scale back size and offer more options under 40mm, and now they’re like “Hmm, let’s go bigger”. I think even the DeepSea got a new, bigger model, which, fair, the DeepSea is pretty niche. But the Black Bay and Pelagos aren’t, the Black Bay is basically the entire lineup of Tudor.

As someone that needs a bit of size to make the watch feel and look right I like the larger cases on Rolex. I don't consider 42 large and have 44 DSSD Deep Blue. The 50mm Deep Sea Challeng is a monster. I know someone with one and th price and size are limiting factors for me. To me the Explorer II is the perfect Rolex. The GMT !! is just too small no matter how many times I try it. I have to try the 40mm Explorer since the 39 looks like freckle on me. For some other brands a 39 works, but not a Rolex. I would really like a 42 mm Sub and GMT II with the hands, markers and dial size of the Explorer II. The 42 Yachtmaster also works very well with the 40 having the same issue as the GMT II and Sub. Everyone I know with larger and higher dollar Rolex collections wants more of the bigger watches. I think the 42 and more is Rolex just listening to their larger customers. I don't think 41-42 is a trend, but has become more the standard. I never really liked the thinner lugged Sub and feel the current 41 and the gen befor it in 40 looking much better.

I don't think so. The smaller dials are here to day for now. Eventually that may change just like fashion and style. It might be Tudor just testing the waters to see how larger dials do on the market.

I like this a lot. Love the way they continued the polished bit on the case through the bracelet.
