I've been to a few British pubs. He speaketh the truth. I spent one Christmas in Rye and we went to the pub for an pint on Christmas Day. I was told almost every pub opens for a couple of hours on holidays so people can get together with their drinking families. The local pub is a de facto community center. I imagine it's official in some towns.

I’d like to move to England and sit in a pub reading a book, like I’m James May.

Took my job with my last employer because I thought they were going to move us to the UK. Would have loved to find our local pub

Alas, they changed their tone after a major acquisition in the US."We need you in the US, Europe is no longer an option ". Now I am with a new employer that (so far) does not bait and switch

    I still enjoy beer

Germany does, indeed, brew some good beer. I was once in Frankfurt for a job thing (pre-teacing career), and I got to enjoy some good beer in some cool places/bars/pubs/ establishments/watering holes and/or other places you enjoy beer and friendship.

A good malbec goes a long way, and I am yet to have a bad malbec.
