My night walks are going to be a bit more interesting I think:

There has been several recent confirmed sightings in the last couple years in Omaha/Douglas county and the areas in between. This is the closest I've seen to where I actually live. I don't see them as being much of a danger in town, yet. More likely we'll see peoples' pets not coming home...still not good, but what can we do?

We get them along the riverbank, which is close to where I live. There are off leash dog parks along the riverbank on both sides of the city. It's a little like a buffet for the cougars.

I went to College at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. The deer/mountain lion population out there is very high. In all the years of drunken college kids walking around I don't recall a single attack on a human. So my take will be to just leave them alone and keep your pets inside.

Not as dangerous as a mountain lion, but a cool visitor in the garden yesterday.

Google tells me that there are around 200 eggs in that sack and they will last the winter, hatch in the spring, and maybe 5 will survive.
