Mars attacks had some of the worst acting immensely stupid script, and no basis in reality. It was still funny and entertaining if you take it that silly was the main objective. I’ve not watched this movie, but it kind of sounds like the same recipe.

Yes, I do think there’s some similarity to Mars Attacks. Mars Attacks was more adult than Pixels; I remember wanting to see it because it had Michael J. Fox in it, but I wasn’t allowed for some reason. And most certainly, if I remember Marty McFly’s fate in that movie, I am glad I wasn’t allowed, because I would have been completely traumatized seeing that.

Oh thank goodness! My brother didn’t like it either, but I remain completely baffled as to how low the bar is for some of these movies. Even in my piece where I wrote about finding comfort in Pixels, I never called it a good movie and I’m not even sure I said I liked it, just that it was the right kind of bad that I needed in that moment.

I recently watched Longlegs on Prime. Nice action by Nicolas Cage but overall it was a bit too much "style over substance". Still, nicely shot movie (the flashbacks to the past are in 4:3 forrmat like an old TV, complete with rounded off corners) with some solid acting -- worth a watch IMHO.
Also currently watching Monsters on Netflix with the wife. The series about the Menendez-brothers (not the documentary). Pretty good if you like stuff like that. And the script manages to leave a lot up in the air and doesn't give the viewer a simple solution for why they did what they did. The case is depicted from different angles. I like it better so far than Dahmer by the same people. Also -- excellent acting by Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny as well as the two guys playing the brothers (don't know their names).
