Those aren't places I've been to. I've heard great things about Sicily. Have a great trip!

You can buy a house for €1 in Sicily.
The population is dwindling and tax is high if you own two houses. Those inheriting a house want to get rid of it and there are few buyers. The local government supports this development because they don’t want to see the landscape dotted with abandoned houses. A young taxi driver in Kraków told me that he had bought one. He was driving taxis until he’d saved up enough for renovation work and then he was off. Periodically, he would come back and drive taxis to fund his living costs for another year.

Funny you say that. We were watching a travel show last year that highlighted Sicily and one of the episodes showed buying a house for 1€. We've planned to go ever since. We're in Rome just this evening. Palermo was the first part of the trip. We LOVED it! In Rome for a few days, then off to Sardinia.
