Weddings and hurricanes, what the hell...

You may remember my wedding with Jeanette was disrupted by and cancelled due to Hurricane Irma September 2017. Then a year later for our first anniversary we had plans for a week at Myrtle Beach. Yep, Hurricane Florence September 2018 killed that.

Well guess what happened this week. Her middle son planned his wedding for a year and their date was October 12, 2024. As I'm sure you know Hurricane Milton ripped through here on the 9th and 10th. The eye passed within about 15 miles from here and while we don't have the horrible damage they do south of here we still had winds near 100mph and 18 inches of rain in 10 hours. The wedding venue has considerable flooding and building damage so of course THE WEDDING WAS CANCELLED. I feel so bad for the kids. They managed to have a few friends and family over to their house on the 12th (without electric power) for a downsized ceremony, they didn't want to give up the date.

Why am I posting this here. I wore my special occasion 58 year old 14k Omega Constellation and no one noticed. !!!

That’s what happens with tasteful discretion.

And perhaps it was noticed, by someone with too much tasteful discretion to mention it.

It's a shame about the wedding needing to move, but I am happy to see that your house and cars seem OK, and that your family is safe. You know at least that WE on IWL appreciate your vintage Omega, so you win the discreet luxury award! Stay safe over there.

Yes, everyone is unharmed. That of course is of the utmost importance.

Glad you came though well. Sorry about the wedding.

We fared much than Ian with some cleanup of small pieces of oak trees. More we realized we have too much stuff outside. Five days of prep was far too much. We need too get this down to a half day or this will kill me.

After 5 days of work the final count is 51 contractor size garbage bags of small stuff and a mountain of chainsawed branches and limbs stacked curbside awaiting FEMA collection. I got super super lucky I was able to get a tree guy here to drop the big broken limb before it fell and crushed the patio. You can't really see the size but it is about 8 inches in diameter at the tear.
