Luckily, he didn't pay anywhere near the current value when he bought it upon release (at industry discounts) 20 years ago. A bit like my small Montebello collection (I was on their futures list for 15 years or so, until the prices went above $100), these are "investments for future special occasions" not "investments for reselling". Honestly I get as much pleasure in a $40 Chateauneuf du Papes as I got in that rare Grand Cru. Still, it's a lesson to be able to taste these beautiful creations.
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

You’re lucky. When I was in Napa doing wine tasting, my tastebuds inexplicably enjoyed the most expensive wines more than any other, before knowing the price. It’s a curse.

My wife has that uncanny skill. She hardly drinks any alcohol now, due to Parkinson's, but she could tell $100 Napa Cab blindfolded, no problem.
She and I agree on Chateauneuf, though. It's our favorite celebration appellation.

I am much the same, though the best of our bottles do no stack up to yours. I can appreciate the occasional $70ish Cab, but beyond that I lack the taste buds to appreciate them. Usually tge $25-$40 range here as well.
Bought this last night to try. Maybe this evening

Makes watches seem like great value suddenly!

As we have come to joke around here: "Child's portion. One ounce pour."

Going to be a few days before the Shiraz is tried. Spent last evening battling our irrigation system....then weather update today says high risk storms likely this evening. On the road at 6am tomorrow as well
It may stay corked for the week lol
