Range is really improving on electrics, they should do a 10-80% charging time, too. That's more important for most people than absolute range.

I see so many flaws in this test verses how Car & Driver does it. It doesn't seem to be based on reality. Who drives a 2-3 second 0-60 car at the speed limit and backs downuntil they absolutely have to. These are greater than $100K cars that most can't even begin to afford. So the tech is as available to very few.

I find all the real world test disappointing since the milage range verses the EPA is down about 33%. The only vehicle with a somewhat decent range is the Lucid, but a $168K car is a non starter. Everything shows this is tech that even five years in is not yet baked. About 210 miles is the bulk of the maximum range among EV. My wife ditched her last small car a few years ago since it would go only 240 miles on it's pathetic 11 gallon tank. Towing drops range below 80 miles in ideal conditions. Charge times are coming down a bit. In my area charger availability makes it look like it has grown a larger percentage, but going from 2-6 charging stations within 20 miles. All of those are Tesla which does not help much(Not the 200% growth it might look like). I still see hybrid as the superior tech now and electric 15-25 years from being universally usable. That about equal to the gestation of Hybrids if you think about it. When I can get in and not have to worry about anything like I currently do with gasoline then it's ready. Hybrids are there now. Range is far more critical for me since the interstructure is not being developed, maintained or growing to take any advantage of charge times. The sole charging station at the Mall here is very out of date and does not appear functional for over a year now so I don't count it (Believe the owers ditched what ever shop they had in the mall during COVID. The Other stations here are the Chevy/GMC/ Buick/ Cadillac dealer has one high power charger and the Nissan dealer has one charger. So a home charger is an essential. Quite a bit different in the city verses rural.

Interesting while rereading a few articles electric vehicles are seeing a high amount of brake systems needing to be replace in under 10K miles since the regenerative is not utilizing the conventional brakes enough. It seems counter intuitive but the lack of use is causing rotor warping which in turn is chewing up brake pads. This came from an article in Motor Trend who is drinking the Electric Kool-Aide more than other magazines here in the US.

This week articles showed most electric only brands took a serious double digit hit in value. I'm thinking the current GM CEO may be the one that kills off most of GM (except maybe Corvette) with their drive to EV only strategy. The Chinese EV brands are being hit with 100% tariffs in Canada and several other countries are lining up to do the same thing. This could extend to car components which would include batteries. This all in strategy seems to be a big mistake. Maybe 15%-25% of the product line is a better strategy until this get's time to mature naturally over maybe the next 25 years. Maybe moving ICE cars to propane or natural gas would help over gasoline and is a easy conversion from todays cars. Look at Hybrids and we see that in most cars the batteries went down in size from what they use to be. The use of the electric drive systems have multiple levels that balance performance and power and other things like simpler AWD systems that would not be possible without major reworks without the electronics. I think smarter use of the Tech while it gets ready for prime time makes far more sense. Maybe if we only need to store say 20-30 miles of battery capacity and the rest came from induction or other means that no one thought of yet. If we really want personal self driving pods then maybe we just need human size slot cars for transportation that join a train and drop off when we get to where we're going and can make it to there final destination on a small battery. Personally the weigh of these EV scare me along with the speeds and not quite perfected braking systems. I'm not saying stop, but slow down and let thing get where tey go naturally. Now it feels like they are being forced down peoples throats.

I've been making it a regular thing to go cycling through my neighborhood 3 times a week. It's safer within my neighborhood (and hilly in some areas for the workout)... But anyway... my point is... I've newly discovered one of my neighbors has a red Jag F type roadster sitting in the driveway... I'm jealous... I've probably said it here before, but I love that car. It's such a good looking car. I want one!!
