Yeah, all that horsepower is going to come in handy when the car is driven slowly to the valet at Neiman Marcus. I couldn’t be less interested in an automatic Corvette with 1,000 horsepower.

I realize the the older I get, the more I become like a short-haired James May, but the Corvette is the exact opposite of what I’m looking for in a car. I’d prefer something much more like this:

    Now that’s a grail car.

Best of luck looks like a nicely equipped car that didn't get driven much, and I am a sucker for Red

Yes, though I think that is a strange way to describe it. I've never seen a bird ride on the roof of a car and some of this is simulated by the cameras in the front and side mirrors. There are some items in the view that I don't know where they come from. Some off road capable vehicles have views under the vehicle so you can avoid crashing rocks into something vulnerable. This is generally a secondary view. Somel allow you to place wheels in specific areas off-road.

The Porsche is nice, and I would let it in my garage any day.

Don't dismiss big HP in a good chassis. Not all of us live in a city, and its limits on top end use. Many people live in places where you can enjoy something like the ZR-1. For me, the only reason I do not have a C8 or C7 ZO6 is space. While you could grocery shop in the C8, it is far less than the C7 for usability. Both are nowhere as usable as a coupe XKR for two people and maybe a dog. From experience, the Lexus LC, if it were a hatchback with more Hp, could be much more usable. The Mercedes GT hardtop and Porsche Panamera are much higher hp than the LC, but are well north of six figures even 4 years old. Big HP gives you a wider margin of flexibility on curvy, not top-end roads.

I can think of at least 50 roads right now so that I can come close to the top end of the ZR-1 without encountering the police or putting anyone in jeopardy. I've topped out a C8 LT1 and a C8 ZO6 on a few of them and had a few more miles of open farm road. From personal experience, Alligator Alley used to be a great place to probe top-end speed before the cameras and excessive police. To me, tests like 0-150-0 are much better for gauging a driver's car.

I’m sorry, but no. There is not a safe public road in America to reach the limits of the ZR-1. This is a car that will do 0-60 in well under 3 seconds, a claimed quarter mile in under 10 seconds, and around 215mph top speed. Even if you could find the space, there isn’t a non-race driver who is prepared to react to the real world at those speeds. Every single person who buys this car is going to be someone who has ~$200,000 in disposable cash and likely has a career behind them and the reflexes of their 20s far, far behind. There is simply no safe way for a septuagenarian to drive a car on public roads at 200mph+.

Not only is the horsepower arms race boring, it’s borderline irresponsible. To me, a test like 0-150-0 is meaningless; it is only an indication of straight line speed and braking ability. That’s really only a small part of being a driver’s car and half of that isn’t really important if the limits of the car are so high that anything done under 100mph feels like pootling. Look, I’m not saying you can’t have any fun in a car like this. But I’m saying you can have the same fun or more in something with performance that is much more accessible and much more of a driver’s car.

Fingers crossed mate! There aren't enough red bmws. And a very similar number of miles as mine.
