Wife has not been driving the Mach 1 due to the ridiculous amount of pollen and respect for my recent detail job so its been in the garage since well she had enough and took it to skating practice this AM just thought the tracks in the driveway were funny I will be glad when the tree pollen is done

Yeah, we had that about a month ago here. You wash the car; before you can get it under cover, it is already full of pollen. Yet when I pulled out the cabin air filter, there was hardly anything in it. The Japanese cars seem to have good placement on these, so if you take it out, you don't just leave it in since it took you over 30 minutes to get it out. I've found most European cars are the exact opposite. I've put in new filters when one was not needed since it was such a chore just getting to it.

Guys, I think your manual transmission and all-around vehicle needs are met by the current crop of hot hatches. The Honda Civic Type R, Golf Type R, and GR Corolla all have fantastic transmissions. (The two Japanese are better, IMO, than the German one.). The Corolla and the VW are both all wheel drive. If you want something a bit up-market, the Acura Integra Type R is a more refined sedan version of the Civic. If I could justify having a third vehicle it would be in the driveway. '

On a different matter, I long for the days again when cars were a year and a model description, not some cryptic model series number like R2D2. I had a 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet white with a clay interior and top. I don't give a Rat's butt what it's it's model and series numbers are. Don't bother to tell me I don't care. What I have above will always be the way I describe it. I wish I had driven it more back then since I would probably still have it. Less than 2K a year for a run to the beach on week's end and some weekend drives did not justify the service and insurance fees. Geoff knows that once I got out of the neighborhood, it was an easy walk to the beach, so the drive was mostly to get the car out to park .5 miles at the beach and later go for breakfast(If that also was not at the beach).

The problem is that, other than the Golf R, the rest of them make me feel embarrassed to be around, let alone drive. The Civic Type R is phenomenally hideous and the GR Corolla is, well, a Toyota Corolla, which is stunning to me that they can get away with charging over $40,000 for a 3 cylinder, Yaris-engined economy car, hopped up or not. I’d die of embarrassment every time I had to tell someone I drove a Toyota Corolla, a name synonymous with reliable, boring transport that is just fine if you don’t care about cars at all, and then tried to explain that it’s the GR version, so it’s special and fast. The Integra is at least likely a better overall experience because of the luxury touches, but the shape of it can’t hide its Civic roots, even though it does manage to look better. I don’t know how it happened, but over time, Honda and Acura went from having some of the best looking cars in their respective classes (remember how clean and handsome the TSX was when it first launched here?) to being just as hideous as 95% of everything else that’s out there. Oh, right, and they took the sunroof out of the Integra Type S and Civic Type R, despite them being available in other trims. On Acura’s site, they proudly proclaim it’s “for rigidity”, but it’s a fast version of an economy car, not a GT3 RS, you must be joking.

Now the Golf R, that’s a good shout. Much more restrained exterior, upscale interior, and it doesn’t lose a beat in performance. The $50K price point is a little hard to swallow, though. However, it is overall a much better prospect and, really, the only real replacement for the entry level luxury sport sedan class that used to exist and has now disappeared.

    I didn’t know you had a 997 C4S cabriolet! Those are awesome.

I actually already had this, believe it or not, from the last time I discussed the Civic Type R with a friend of mine. It’s a great car, but it’s not worth dying over. Which I would do. Of embarrassment. Every time I looked at that ****ing wing or that amorphous blob of quarter window by the C pillar.

I don't know how I got there, but I came across this a few minutes ago. This was my first new (from the dealer)car, with everything before it came on a rollback truck or our car trailer and was rebuilt in our garage. The 1989 Corolla GTS was in this shade of red and with these wheels. It had an amazing Brake and steering feel, and that shifter was also excellent. The cloth seats were upgraded and really held you in place. Redline was close to 8000 on the twin-cam 1600cc engine. It was my compromise from the supercharged MR-2 that was available then. The MR-2 was probably the most capable car they made at that time, but it barely had room for a single-person grocery run. The GTS was the start of the move away from hatchbacks or liftbacks as Toyota called them. Having a trunk and not a hatch wa the only thing I did not like about it.

I agree, and it is not a 60+ year old man's car. That is why I would take the Integra type S. here side by side with the Civic(Sorry it will not copy photo).

Side note, the overhang thing is a BMW brainwash exercise. Nearly every Porsche or Ferrari has more of a front overhang than the Civic or Integra. IMO it makes it harder to place the front end on a BMW.

Also, the new wing is miles better than the previous aftermarket-looking skyscraper one. I still hate both, just not as much. I'm surprised you missed all the fake vents, which some can be made functional.

I have to disagree with this take @Samanator. People who want a performance car with a manual won't be happy with those choices - they all drive the wrong wheels and are essentially juiced up economy cars. No, thanks.

Lots of people do care - I can tell you most manufacturer's series numbers for cars, on the Porsche and BMW I also know the dot version or if it's pre or post LCI.

I'd have a golf r, but it's the same value as my car and I'd prefer mine by every metric.

Been 'out of circulation' for a while due to "a lot going on on the family front" in addition to my current project of building myself a workshop on the side of my garage.
