D'Yquem seems to hold up forever. I have no idea why, but it seems fresh no matter how old. This one was the third time I have had D'Yquem, and each time was memorable. This was the first time I have had a DRC (the Richebourg Domaine Romanee Conti) and I blanched when I researched what this bottle would sell for now. Our friend bought it at wholesale when it was released. Such elegant and complex wines, such obsessive one-upmanship collecting pushing the prices into the stratosphere.

Blimey…. On balance, I think I’d have wanted to know what I was drinking before I drank it. Just so that I didn’t throw it down without thought.

With this particular friend, we understand the wisdom of paying attention to the mystery wine.

What do you do when the tree farm you were told was open is, in fact, closed? You get a drink and regroup. Fear not, we got a tree.

Quite yummy. The wife, who doesn't like whiskey/bourbon, liked it, too. She liked her pumpkin martini more.

Lunch break. I went with a hoppy pale ale while the wife picked a peanut butter milk stout. It was a little sweet, she said.
