All would be 2012 or newer, so I guess that’s where I’m sticking my baseline. I supposed I could also look at 435i coupes, since there are probably more of them around. Still some months away from even beginning to seriously look, but I’m glad I’m narrowing down (and then slowly increasing) the field of options. Always good to have some ideas and be flexible.

Now is a terrible time to buy, prices are high on everything. It's good to be narrowing now, lots of time.

I have some watch lists on Bring A Trailer for things I have on my I might buy that radar. It doesn't always tell you the broader market, since they are mostly enthusiast cars on that site, but can help you know values for good examples of those cars.

@Samanator had an F-Type, he could probably comment on them.

Oh yeah, once I saw what the prices were for most of the cars I was looking at prior to the pandemic, I realized these inflated prices can’t last and I’m not in enough of a rush to pay them.

I don’t know about BaT. I watch BaT for some fun, but the auctions there are wild. I’ve seen 204Zs go for 6 digits on that site. Seems like just about everyone selling there thinks their car is a classic and they have enough of an audience that thinks they are as well. BaT is a strange microcosm of psycho enthusiasts with a lot of money.

    I mean, look at this:
    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...gra-type-r-46/
40K for an ITR? A car that’s been surpassed by many other FWD performance cars and is sure to be stolen within 6 months of taking delivery?

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-964-widebody/
Sure to rake in 6 figures for its rarity and low miles, it’s not an entirely unjustified price, but it’s the car of a collector, not a driver. Every mile you put on it probably costs $100 of resale value.

This is one I’ve been watching intently:
    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1995-toyota-supra-38/
What are you supposed to do with a tuner car you can’t tune and can’t drive or you’ll lose all the value you paid for? I just don’t get it. The Supra is a very cool car, but it’s hardly the kind of car you buy just to look at. I have no idea what the buyer is going to want to do with that car.

Sure, there are some affordable cars out there, but I think I saw a 1991 318is going for over 6 grand, which is insane to me. A 30 year old entry level BMW with and economy car engine and no value as a classic being worth over $6,000!? In that price range, you can find a number of E90s and E46s with bigger engines. It’s true, newer ones come with electrical and electronic headaches, but still. Hard for me to say there’s any 318is that is worth $6,000+ unless there’s $5,000 in the trunk!

There’s definitely cool stuff on that site, but for me right, it’s at most window shopping for something to put on my radar in 10 years.

As I recall, he didn’t like it too much. I remember he mentioned how the cabin was surprisingly tight, but I can’t remember anything else he said. I’d certainly be interested in his perspective as a former owner.

Although one of you should buy this, it’s one of my top 5 favorite Ferraris ever:

These prices are pretty insane. I did a KBB of mine just for fun, and it's more than what I paid 2 years and 24K miles later.
