Weren't those years of S4 dual clutch transmissions prone to that problem? That model had a laundry list of common problems.
Similar story with my 2006 E60 M5 SMG. Daily drove it for 3-4 years, no issues with it in 30k miles. Guy I know who owns a used car dealership bought it from me and put it on his lot. Potential buyer test drives the car and likes it, takes the car to local BMW dealer for a pre-purchase inspection. They gave the car a clean bill of health and the guy buys it. Fast forward 2 weeks, the car gives him the red cog of death and the sequential trans refuses to cooperate. He take the car back to the BMW dealer who did the PPI and they quote him $12,000 to repair the issue. The guy I know who sold him the car gets it back to his shop - SMG pump failure. They sorted it out for under $5k IIRC.
Not sure about exotics, either, at least not new ones. Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, no manuals left. Lotus is your best bet right now, along with Porsche (which isn’t exotic, of course). Pretty soon you won’t even find a pure internal combustion engine in the exotics.![]()
I think you're right. Porsche has a couple manuals and then it's Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, if you want something with 600+hp and a third pedal.
I have said it before, for a fast car I prefer an auto or sequential trans. If you can drive a 6, 7, 800+hp car with 3 pedals at the limit, you're a better driver than I am.![]()
I thought the Golf/GTI was on the MQB platform and the Jetta is a North American Passat chassis that’s been cut down to size? Is that no longer the case?
Anyway, I ****ing loved my MkV Jetta Wolfsburg (same car as the GLI minus the cosmetics); the 2.0T and 6 speed were a pleasure to use everyday. I still miss that car. Hope you love yours as much as I loved mine.
