**** lets get our nerd on :) seiko quartz vs special quartz ****

well got to pop off-line for a few hours but will leave a ponder to come back too )

on vintage and now some modern Seiko dial you seem " SQ " I always quote it as Seiko quartz on my listing and post now I see some one saying it stands for special quartz can't see from a quick search any thing to prove this , but then again the Seiko quartz is almost the same lots of refs to it in sales but not a lot more so which is it members.

    special quartz ( I'm special me )

    or

seiko quartz ( wake me when it gets here )

or shall we make up our own lets see them

    as it always is ismy

As you say, SQ simply means Seiko Quartz. Nothing special about it.

    I haven’t looked.

But it’s the established view going back donkey’s years, isn’t it? I think the onus for ‘S’ meaning ‘Special’ lies with the person stating it. I can see no reason for Seiko designating the movement in their quartz watches as ‘special’. As I understand it, they were simply drawing attention to the fact that the watches were quartz, which became redundant when quartz became widespread.
