New Year's Dinner with Mrs. Skywatch. I'm the cook here, so I decided on a humble meal to start the new year with gratitude. Hoppin' John (black-eyed beans cooked with broth, cajun veggies and spices, blended with rice), roasted cauliflower with lemon and tahini, and puff pastries (filled with smoked salmon, onion, shrimp, celery, cilantro, pine nuts and Gruyere cheese.) I made enough for two days apparently.

Desert was homemade coffee ice-cream with chocolate chips in it.

Seared duck breast with pancakes, mangoes and haskap hoisin sauce. The housemade haskap hoisin sauce was freaking amazing. I don't grow haskaps, but I do grow saskatoonberries. They share a similar tannin profile and I am going to be making my own saskatoon hoisin sauce.

Getting lazy, duck leg tomato curry and free run chicken egg fried rice. Odd Couple is one of the best restaurants in Ssaskatoon of any kind and their tomato red curries are a star on their menus. The duck/ pineapple version of it did not disappoint.

Dessert was some kind of chocolate tart that was pretty fantastic, if dessert's your thing.

I couldn't decide if that was your camera messing with the perspective or not.
