The new Supra is so disappointing. No manual transmission, ugly as sin, I didn't find it that fun to drive and probably will have BMW reliability (aka none).

I climbed in and it was instantly far more tight than the F Type and there is no roof to remove to make it feel a bit more open. Then I saw that unit under the center of the dash looks like an add on 8 track from the early 70's. Are you kidding me? I was in and out in two minutes. A manual is something I've given up on knowing if I'd want it as a track car It's never going to be as fast as a good DSG. Why even try when it's nearly the base price of a new Vet which is better in every way. With the Rolex like market markup you can seriously upgrade the Vet with all the good stuff and still be cheaper than a Supra.

TBH I have given up on really like new car interiors. Too many screens, too little exterior glass, steering wheels that are too fat so the interior didn't bother me too much. I am weird though cause this is all I want out of a car interior.

But it was so disappointing considering how much I liked the GT86 (one of the few modern post about 2010 cars I'd actually want to own). I am not sure who to blame BMW cause they last few BMWs I have driven have felt like Camrys or the company that built the Camry.

For me a manual is a must. I don't really care if the DSG stuff is faster.

Looking it up, I see that the interior is essentially that of the BMW Z4.

I also saw that the body vents are non-functional.

Yes, the disappointing new Supra and disappointing new Z4 were disappointingly co-developed by BMW and Toyota.

Aren't we all willing to trade a little reliability for fun to drive? I've been lucky with the BMWs I've owned, but I acknowledge they are near the bottom for reliability.

Out of all the cars over the years, a manual trans Porsche Cayenne GTS was the worst for me. I can't remember if I owned it an entire year.

True. But the nice thing with the Toyota sports cars generally you don't have to trade one for the other. At least that was true with the old Supras, MR2s and Celicas and seems to be true with the GT86.

Admittedly the interior finishes aren't as nice but they seem to hold up better then their European competition.

My basis for comparison as far as getting to drive German cars vs Japanese ones, sporty German ones I have gotten to really drive, E36 M3 (lightly modified), E46 M3, Z3 1.9, 318ti, E30 325iX, E46 328i, newer VW GTi with DSG, 81 VW Scirroco (heavily modified suspension, gutted interior, slightly warmed up engine), 90s GTi, Audi S4, Porsche 924 vs Japanese, MKIII Supra Turbo (lightly modified), 80s MR2 Supercharged (lightly modified), 90s MR2 non-turbo, Z31 300ZX, 78 280ZX (heavily modifed), NA Miata, last model of MR2, last model of Celica GTS, aftermarket turbocharged NB Miata, heavily ported FB RX-7 (that liked to shot fire out the exhaust on downshifts), more then a few modified Civics (including one with 600hp at the wheels), GT86, MKV Supra. Honestly of the Germans the only ones I really loved were the E36 M3 and the 81 Scirrocco. Whereas the only ones from Japan I didn't love where the 2 Zs and the MKV Supra. The 600hp Civic was admittedly stupid because it was basically step on the gas, wait for the turbo to spool up and then try to hang on to the steering wheel as torque steer tried to yank it out of your hands.

You would think that given this the BMW would handle better and be faster, but it's not. I've always had an affinity for inline sixes, but for some reason I've neve owned a BMW. I've come close more than once but never closed the deal.
