Thread: What are you drinking?

A weekend getaway of birthday celebrations. Arrived Friday on Jekyll Island Friday and started with a white Bourgogne , followed by my birthday yesterday and my wife's 50th today. Wines are in order. The Ducru Beaucaillou vintage corresponds to the year we were married and the Dom vintage was the year we celebrated my 50th.

We have friends who have bought a house in Jekyll. Always enjoy it when they invite us. Congrats!

It's really nice and secluded here. We will surely be back on a regular basis.

Canadian whiskey- 12 Barrels to be specific. This is from a micro distillery but the recipe is based on George Meagher's recipe from the 1890s., so it is thankfully much more rye forward than a typical modern Canadian whiskey.

George Meagher was an interesting fellow. He was the youngest of 15 kids. He won an official Junior world championship in figure skating and then a Seniors World Championship a number of years later. In between he became one of the first people to show Europeans hockey, teaching a bunch of Frenchmen how to play and then founding a league in Paris, moving on to England and then Glasgow. Eventually he showed the Germans and the Russians hockey as well. He was also well known for his trick skating. 12 barrels is named for one of his more spectacular tricks, jumping over 12 of his own whiskey barrels. In later life he published numerous books, painted and of course made decent whiskey.

Indeed it is. We bought this one the year we bought the building for the business so that means it's around 14 years old. It's standing up well.
