Cruisers are for open road. I rode 4800 miles back in 98 on a RoadKing. It was nice, but it showed me its shortcomings. Personally I like the Vrod the best In the Harley line ( while it was still being made). My brother and I rented one and a dresser a few years ago. The dresser pushed wide in the corners and I found it tiring to ride. Once I got use to the forward riding position of the VRod I learned having the weight at axel level (gas tank is actually low behind the engine) yields a bike that can dance down the road like a dirt bike. It feels weightless.

The best retro cruiser I’ve had was the Triumph Bonneville. You can ride it through tank after tank of fuel and it is super comfortable. It handles very well and has good power. When I took it for a 150 mile ride to meet the new owner I nearly called him and thought about keeping it. I kinda wish I had. Can’t get near one now for nearly $6k more than the last cost. I could have bought two for the current price. It was also better looking than the current one.

Roadkings are good open road bikes, I prefer something smoother and sportier. The vibes on Harleys make long days difficult. It's probably been 10 years since I've ridden one, so my impressions may be outdated.

We've done an Atlantic to Pacific coast run in a long weekend on our sportbikes. I wouldn't call it the most comfortable, but the overall mix of handling, wind protection, power, fuel economy, NVH, etc, is good on our bike sportbikes. We were able to do more than one 1000+ mile day back to back when we were making time across the country.

Speaking of Triumphs, I'm in lust with the Thruxton R.

I’ve been in love with the Thruxton line since I saw it first when I was in college. What a beauty. If I ever buy a bike, that’s the one I want.

Or maybe the Bonneville Street Twin.

I hadn't seen it in green with the R trim Ohlins bits. I'm digging the combo.

450lbs dry, 97hp/82ft lbs - it's no sportbike, but isn't that the point?

Although, I can't help thinking a little turbo hanging off the side could do a lot for it.

Man, I am just not into sport bikes. They’re posters, but if I wanted to kill myself, I’ve got a loaded 9 in my bedroom and that would be a lot quicker. And I wouldn’t have to dress in a stupid Power Ranger costume to do it.

Do dangerous shit or sit around - we're both dying, I'm just having more fun.
