It would be nice to get fresh seafood but we're so far from the ocean this stuff has to be at least a few days old.
It's also very pricey, if course. $21-29 a pound for most items. I don't think they'll make it here, folks around here are too "frugal" to spend that kind of dough.
Around here, Capt D's is considered good seafood!
    That's sad.

It was that way here until less than a decade ago. It was well into this century that IQF from the grocery store was far and away the best option for seafood. One couldn't even really get local commercial freshwater fish.

A couple of days ago I made a Cuban style pork roast. I made a nice mojo marinade and soaked the meat 24hrs.
It was really good but the reason I did it was because I just happened to have everything on hand to make a sandwich mixto, or Cubano.

I've loved Cubanos since the first time I had one when I was living in the Keys.

Butter both cut sides of bread, stack pickles, pork, ham, and cheese. Top with other half of bread.
Place in lightly buttered pan and place foil covered brick on the sandwich. Burner on low-med low.

When finished, the sandwich should be about 1/3 it's original thickness. Cut and serve.

I only wish I'd had a ice cold beer or a mojito to with it!

What a strange coincidence. Out of the blue, I had a Cubano sandwich for the first time ever for dinner tonight. It was very good.

So many good meat alternatives coming out - this is fake beef strips and it genuinely doesn't make me feel like I'm missing out on beef in this stir fry. Chicken pieces has been done for a while. If/when they manage to synthesise pepperoni pizza, burgers, and steak... I'll be a happy chappy.

I don’t mind a full veg meal, I quite like meat too...

But I’d rather have one or the other, or both.....but not something pretending to be meat by whatever foul means

    Just my opinion though

I'm a massive meat lover Mike.
Don't knock it till you try it.

For example you like men, I don't, but I won't knock it cos I haven't tried it.

I saw somebody referring to something recently called facon ........

And I thought why not just have bacon ......or just not something you want to call facon ........

I think (personally again) these are people that are just missing bacon (for instance) and have to have something on the plate called something similar ?.......
If you’ve chosen to stop eating meat ....then why have something on the plate that rhymes with it ?

Because I love the taste of meat and miss it desperately? But don't wanna kill animals cos its out of order - would you want to be killed for meat? No. But if it tastes as good as bacon then great!

How could you possibly have an issue with something I eat? I have an issue with you killing lambs - I won't post a picture because it'll make you feel guilty :-)
