Read my latest IWL blog entry! An Ode To Rule Breaking
Fond memories for me, when I worked briefly for a BL (JRT) dealer in the very late 70's , these were pretty much done by then but they still came in the garage from time to time.
There were plenty of these

But there was also this fresh on the block:
The fabled 3500 was pretty much the same in all of themwhat a beautiful noise .....

Alfa Romeo 4c competitor from Gordon Murray......
Alfa really ballsed up the 4c. Could have been so much better.
Can't wait to see this one.

From the article:
"I'll tell you what it is. It's a Lotus Elise, but usable every day," Murray said. "You can get in and out. It's got a roof. It's got air-conditioning that works, sound system, sat nav, airbags..."
As a former Elise owner, them's fightin' words. Except that they're pretty much true. But also irrelevant.
I do wonder how challenging it will be for him to get US safety approval of such a small, light car. Unless he does what Lotus did with the Elise--get a five year low volume exemption, and then stop importing it.
It was always the Porsche Turbo 930 as my dream car as a teen.
More realistic would be the Datsun 280Z:
Or a bit later a Toyota Supra or Celica GTS:

Photo of late wife and I at Timberline. Old Classic is the one that took us on those adventures.
Current C7 purchased for because of a great deal and that I seldom get to see the C5 as my eldest daughter seems to like a lot.
I purchased this car 43 years ago for $3000. Still have it although it is on blocks and not driven.
