Wife got a new Accord over the weekend. 2.0 turbo 4.

They’ve come a long way from the last time I was in one many years ago.

Now to get the windows tinted before the Florida summer starts.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. You simply cannot go wrong with an Accord. They're a very well made car at a reasonable price and they'll last a very long time. My friend has an older Accord that's worth next to nothing and just clutters his life (he has a much newer BMW X1 as well), and yet, he can't bring himself to sell it because he likes it too much. Great choice and congratulations!

Thanks! It was between that or the new Camry. I have an older one that's paid off and plan to keep it another 1-2 years. The accord turbo engine was just more spirited.

My only issue is the Accord (And probably the same for most newer cars) is it may have too many bells and whistles. The settings menu is immense, and you can setup pretty much anything. Which means you need to setup everything.

That's everything now. "Infotainment" is the new keyword, and it's all about phone integration. It worries me as well--I get a new phone every year or two. I don't want to buy a car and then have the technology go obsolete because I got a new phone. But, once you get used to the new tech, it's not so bad.

When I was on vacation, I rented a Nissan Armada--massive beast of a thing, and frankly, not a very good truck--and I got behind the wheel and just started driving, thinking I'd be able to figure everything out on the fly. That was a mistake. 5-10 years ago, that wasn't the case. The buttons were all over the place, the menus and submenus weren't all that intuitive, so after I got us to the hotel, I stayed in the car for a while to get used to the controls I'd need to use for the week I'd be driving it. But, some of that tech was super clutch. Thanks to the 360 degree overhead parking camera, I could park that beast anywhere. When I rented the Corvette, the HUD was making my heart melt, it was such a convenient and cool bit of tech. So it's a bit of a double edged sword, technology, but it can be very useful if you put in the time to learn it. Unfortunately, you've got to put in the time.

I mean, all I really want out of a car is Bluetooth, a backup camera, heated seats, and navigation. And I can live without a backup camera.

I don't know I think some tech is great. I insisted that my next vehicle have Apple Car Play which the Honda Ridgeline Truck I bought does. It workes like and with my phone and siri. Nothing to learn again and the way it lets you listen to text messages and create new ones as you drive is completely unobtrusive. Whatever is the current best nav ap (I used Waze the last trip to Orlando ) can be displayed on the screen. I can use Amazon music, iTunes (Archive or radio), Spotify....for music. IMO it is the way tech should work...work together in a uniform format. Part of why I switched to all Apple a few years ago.

Other techs like blindspot, cross traffic collision, radar cruise control, heated/cooled seats, parking sensors and cameras I feel all are pluses. While I'm not totally in love with any brands safety systems (Including my Honda), I do not turn them off for the extra protection they offer. Litlmn new Accord (if it is a touring model, but it looks to be the Sport) may have the one feature I think they need to make more available across all models and that is HID.

Congrats on the Accord by the way. Fully agree it is one of the best cars out there. Even Motor Trend in a head to head against the Audi A4 rated it the better car and they did not even take into account it was over $10K less. My wife want's to get one, but is waiting to see if they offer them in AWD soon.

My new car is my first experience with most of the new tech, too. Like Michael, I think Apple CarPlay is great, although I wish it worked wirelessly. Maybe it does in some cars?

Active cruise has improved hugely, and in the AMG, it’s definitely useable. Blind spot monitoring is also nice, as are all the cameras and sensors for parking. What don’t I like? The car has a “steering assist” feature that actually “helps” steer in turns by looking at the road lines with its cameras. Thank heavens you can turn it off and leave it off—I found myself fighting the wheel with it on, as I disagreed with how much turning should be done. I also don’t think I will turn on the “driver alertness” feature...

I finally am past the 1000 mile break-in period, so once the roads dry out, I’ll be able to see what the car is really capable of.

One other comment about all those systems—they all get disabled if you’re driving in snow and the cameras and sensors get dirty. I worry about how people who rely totally on those systems will be able to drive competently if they’re not working.

Meh. I know how fast I’m going and how fast other cars are going, I can figure the rest out. I learned how to park when I was a wee lad, it’s like riding a bike, you never forget it.
